TYLER, Texas (TXAN 24) — A panel discussion on immigration policy at El Norteño Mexican Restaurant took an unexpected turn when a heated exchange broke out between the president of the Sheriffs’ Association of Texas and a local citizen.

The event, held on February 6, featured Smith County Sheriff Larry Smith and other law enforcement officials addressing immigration concerns and law enforcement’s role in policy enforcement. However, tensions rose when a citizen, pressing officials with multiple questions, sparked a sharp response from the association’s president.

The discussion covered various aspects of immigration policy, but the moment of confrontation highlighted the deep divide and emotions surrounding the issue. Some attendees voiced frustration over law enforcement’s stance, while others supported the panel’s efforts to clarify their position.

TXAN 24 News captured the moment and will provide further updates as more details emerge.
