UPDATE: Shooting leaves one injured, Suspect At-Large

JACKSONVILLE, Texas (TXAN 24) — The Jacksonville Police Department is actively seeking the public’s help in locating Damian Charles Smith, 28, who is wanted in connection with a shooting that took place on July 9th in the 700 block of Elm Street. The early morning incident left Justin Torres, 31, with a single gunshot wound. Torres was treated at a local hospital and later released.


Smith, a Jacksonville resident, is considered armed and dangerous. The police have issued several arrest warrants against him, including one for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, with bonds set at $600,000.


Authorities are urging anyone with information about Smith's whereabouts or the shooting incident to immediately call 911 or the Jacksonville Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division at (903) 586-2546. Cherokee County Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to Smith’s arrest.


The incident was reported to Jacksonville Police at approximately 6:56 AM on July 9th. Upon arrival, police and emergency services found Torres with a gunshot wound. Although his identity has been disclosed, other identifying details are withheld due to the sensitive nature of the case.


Chief of Police Joe Williams emphasized the department's commitment to apprehending Smith swiftly and safely, urging the community to remain vigilant and report any useful information.
