Second Suspect Arrested in Murder of Jacksonville Woman; Investigation Ongoing

JACKSONVILLE, Texas (TXAN 24) – On August 22, 2024, law enforcement agencies made a significant breakthrough in the ongoing investigation into the murder of Clara Deane Wilson, a 29-year-old Jacksonville resident. A second suspect, who is a juvenile, has been taken into custody.


Due to their age, the suspect’s identity cannot be disclosed. The Jacksonville Police Department, in collaboration with the Texas Rangers, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department, and the U.S. Marshals, continues to investigate the case, with additional arrests anticipated.


This development follows an earlier arrest on August 22, 2024, when a separate subject was also taken into custody in connection with Wilson’s murder. Authorities are working diligently to piece together the details surrounding this tragic event.


The Jacksonville Police Department identified the victim of the August 17th shooting as Clara Deane Wilson, 29. The shooting occurred around 2:52 AM in the 400 block of Gillespie Avenue. Responding officers and emergency medical personnel found Wilson deceased at the scene, having suffered a fatal gunshot wound.


The Jacksonville Police Department, Texas Rangers, and other involved agencies are continuing their investigation to uncover more details and bring those responsible to justice. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
