Rusk, TEXAS (TXAN 24) — The City of Rusk has placed Police Chief Scott Heagney on administrative leave following a complaint against him, according to City Manager Bob Goldsberry’s statement with CBS19. The decision was made Wednesday afternoon, and an outside firm has been hired to conduct an investigation into the matter.
In Heagney’s absence, Sgt. Jeremy Farmer will oversee day-to-day operations at the department until the investigation is concluded.
This development comes just days after TXAN 24 News reported on Chief Heagney’s investigation into alleged misconduct within the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department and Rusk ISD. It remains unclear whether his administrative leave is related to that investigation.
The city has not provided additional details regarding the nature of the complaint, but officials say they will release more information as it becomes available.
