Remembering Tevin Antonio Garland: A Life Well Lived and Forever Cherished

HENDERSON, Texas (TXAN 24) — Today marks eight years since the passing of Tevin Antonio Garland, who tragically left us at the tender age of 23. Born on September 16, 1992, Tevin's life, though brief, was filled with love, faith, and athleticism.


Tevin was born in Henderson, Texas, to Susan K. Mallory and Marcus Garland. From a young age, he embraced his faith, joining Wesley Chapel C.M.E. Church and accepting Christ as his Lord and Savior.


Early in his life, his journey took him to Jacksonville, Texas, where he attended Jacksonville I.S.D. and graduated in 2011.


Tevin was a well-rounded student, actively participating in football, basketball, and track. His passion for sports was evident to all who knew him. Garland was also known for his sense of humor and kind heart.


After high school, Tevin furthered his education at Tyler Junior College. His love for sports and commitment to his studies made him a role model for his peers.


Tevin's legacy lives on through his loved ones. He is survived by his parents, Mark and Susan Mallory, and Marcus and Saugonda Garland; his sister, Veronica Garland; his fiancée, Shay Matthews; and his daughter, Te’Asia Garland of Jacksonville, Texas.


In addition, a large extended family of uncles, aunts, nephews, cousins, and friends continue to hold his memory dear.


In a heartfelt tribute to her son, Susan Mallory shared with TXAN 24 News, "I just want to say that he is truly missed and that he will always have a place in my heart. I love you, baby boy!"


As we remember Tevin Antonio Garland today, we honor a young man who touched many lives with his kindness, faith, and athletic spirit. His memory will forever be a beacon of love and inspiration to those who knew and loved him.
