JACKSONVILLE, Texas (TXAN 24) – The Sweet Union Apartments on U.S. 69 are once again facing deep scrutiny after a ceiling collapse nearly injured two toddlers in a resident's unit.
Despite multiple complaints and work orders filed as cracks began forming in the ceiling, management reportedly ignored the warnings.
The ceiling eventually gave way, crashing down in the family’s living room where the toddlers were playing. Fortunately, the children were not injured, but the collapse has left the community outraged.
This incident comes just weeks after TXAN 24 News first reported on health code violations at Sweet Union Apartments. At that time, residents were already voicing concerns about severe living conditions, including mold, rats, and roaches. Since that initial report, it appears the situation has only gotten worse.
Residents shared a photo of the aftermath, showing the ceiling debris covering the family’s furniture. "They did nothing but ignore her," a tenant said, referring to the resident who filed multiple complaints.
The frustration among tenants continues to grow as these hazardous living conditions persist, seemingly without any action from the property’s management.
Calls for a thorough inspection by local health authorities are mounting, as more residents come forward with similar complaints about unsafe and unsanitary conditions.
Many feel their concerns have been disregarded, leaving them to live in dangerous environments with little to no response from management.
"It’s becoming dangerous," said another resident. "These issues go unheard and untreated."
Despite the worsening conditions, it remains unclear if management has responded to the latest incident or taken steps to address the mounting health hazards.
TXAN 24 News will continue to follow this developing story as residents demand accountability and safety in their homes.
