JACKSONVILLE, Texas (TXAN 24) – A resident at Sweet Union Apartments has reported that the roof in their bathroom collapsed on their young daughter, sending her to the hospital with a sprained leg and cuts from falling debris, which also contained black mold. The incident happened at 7:25 p.m. on October 11, and according to the resident, they had notified management multiple times about a leak coming from the roof prior to the collapse.
The resident explained that despite raising concerns for three days about the leaky roof, no one from management addressed the issue. When the roof finally gave way, the family was forced to leave their home and stay with relatives, as the complex refused to pay for a hotel.
“I called the manager, but they told me to contact an emergency line for maintenance,” said the resident. “Even though I did, no one came, and we had to leave for my sister’s house because they wouldn’t help.”
The family shared that the maintenance worker arrived later in the night but claimed the roof wasn’t something he could fix. As of now, no further assistance has been provided by the apartment complex.
Residents of Sweet Union Apartments have raised concerns over ongoing maintenance issues, calling for more accountability and better living conditions from the management team.
This is not the first time TXAN 24 News has reported on Sweet Union Apartments’ lack of response to critical repairs. The community is demanding action as more complaints come to light.
