DALLAS, Texas (TXAN 24) — The Dallas Cowboys were dealt a devastating blow Sunday when rookie linebacker Demarvion Overshown suffered a serious injury to his right leg during the fourth quarter of their game. The injury occurred during a 2-yard run by Cincinnati’s Chase Brown, as Overshown’s leg was hurt as a result of a pileup.
After the game, Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons, one of the team’s defensive leaders, spoke emotionally about his close relationship with Overshown.
“I cried,” Parsons admitted. “It’s like my little bro, bro. He doesn’t deserve that, either. He really don’t. Just to understand what he’s going to go through and to be there for him physically, mentally—it’s just so challenging because of the year he was having. I really just don’t think that’s fair, either.”
Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy also expressed concern about Overshown’s condition, calling the injury “of a serious nature” and adding, “it’s not good.” A source close to the team indicated that initial evaluations suggest Overshown may have sustained more than just an ACL tear, though the full extent of the injury will not be confirmed until further testing on Tuesday.
Overshown, a pick out of the University of Texas, had been showing tremendous promise this season. Known for his athleticism and versatility, he had quickly earned a role in Dallas’s linebacker rotation. His ability to adapt to the demands of the NFL had impressed both coaches and teammates, making this setback particularly heart-wrenching for the team.
Overshown’s loss is not just a blow to the Cowboys’ defense but also to a player whose NFL journey was just beginning to take off. For now, the focus will shift to his recovery, with the organization and his teammates rallying around him for support.
“Before the start of his rookie season last year, Overshown tore his ACL in his left knee, where he was forced to missed the entirety of the season. If this injury keeps him out of Dallas' last four games, the Cowboys would be losing their second leading player in both tackles and sacks.” - DallasCowboys.com reports
As Overshown faces the road to recovery, fans and teammates alike are holding out hope that the young linebacker’s resilience will see him return stronger than ever.
