North Texas takes on UAB to play in AAC Championship

FT. WORTH, Texas (TXAN) -- The University of North Texas (UNT) Mean Green are set to face the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Blazers in the semifinals of the 2025 American Athletic Conference (AAC) men's basketball tournament. The matchup is scheduled for Saturday, March 15, at 4:00 PM CDT at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
UNT, holding a 24-7 overall record and a 14-4 conference record, secured the No. 2 seed and a double bye into the quarterfinals. They advanced by defeating Tulsa 77-59 on March 14.
UAB, with a 21-11 overall record and a 13-5 conference record, is the No. 3 seed. They reached the semifinals after a victory over East Carolina in the quarterfinals.
The season series between the teams is tied 1-1. UNT won the first meeting 78-75 on December 31, 2024, at home, while UAB claimed a 64-61 victory on February 3, 2025, in Birmingham.
The winner of this semifinal will advance to the AAC championship game on Sunday, March 16, with an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament at stake.
