TYLER, Texas (TXAN 24) — A Plano man has been arrested in connection with the January 6 murder of his ex-girlfriend, Cheyenne Russell, 26, of Nacogdoches. An affidavit reveals chilling details, including that one of Russell’s children witnessed the crime.
Russell had recently moved into the Bellwood Lake Apartments with her two children, the younger of whom was fathered by the suspect, Jorian Raklyn Nashun Jackson, 29. On the day of the murder, Russell told her roommate via text that Jackson had visited to deliver Christmas presents. She also mentioned Jackson questioning their breakup, which occurred a year prior.
The roommate, who returned home around 5 p.m., found Russell on the couch under a blanket. Russell’s older child approached, stating, “Her mom was dead.” The roommate discovered blood on Russell’s face and called 911.
According to the affidavit, the child told police Jackson and Russell had been fighting, saying Jackson “caused the red on mommy’s dress.” Investigators found five shell casings at the scene and three gunshot wounds on Russell’s body.
Jackson was arrested January 22 at his grandparents’ home in Tyler after a two-week manhunt. His grandparents, Carolyn and Willie Johnson, both 75, were also charged with hindering his arrest.
Jackson is being held in the Smith County Jail on a $1 million bond.
