Man Arrested in Connection to Carthage Hit-and-Run That Injured 5-Year-Old

CARTHAGE, Texas (TXAN 24) – A suspect has been arrested in connection to a hit-and-run incident that left a 5-year-old child injured in Carthage, Texas.


Authorities identified Jhavorry Demaero Crayton as the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash and obtained a warrant for his arrest through the Panola County District Attorney’s Office.


On March 20, 2025, at approximately 3:45 p.m., the Carthage Police Department was notified that Crayton had been taken into custody by the Longview Police Department.


He was arrested in the 200 block of Eckmon Street in Longview on the issued Carthage warrant, as well as other charges related to the arrest.


The hit-and-run incident, which sent shockwaves through the Carthage community, resulted in a Failure to Stop and Render Aid (F3) charge against Crayton. Law enforcement agencies across the region assisted in locating and apprehending the suspect.


In a statement, Assistant Police Chief Desmond McDaniel thanked all the law enforcement agencies involved in Crayton’s arrest. The Carthage Police Department has not yet released additional details about the child’s condition or whether further charges will be filed.
