UNITED STATES (TXAN 24) — With the 2025 MLB season just around the corner, a new study has revealed which teams offer the most affordable—and most expensive—home opener experiences for fans.
The Cheapest Home Openers in 2025
Topping the list as the most budget-friendly opening day experience are the Minnesota Twins, who will raise their 2024 World Series championship banner on April 3 against the Houston Astros. According to a study by GameZinger, a fan can attend for as little as $38.23, including the cost of a ticket, parking, a beer, and a hot dog.
Here’s the full breakdown of the five most affordable home openers:
1. Minnesota Twins vs. Houston Astros – $38.23
2. Toronto Blue Jays vs. Baltimore Orioles – $42.12
3. Seattle Mariners vs. Oakland Athletics – $44.25
4. Los Angeles Angels vs. Cleveland Guardians – $48.79
5. Atlanta Braves vs. Miami Marlins – $52.23
The Most Expensive Home Openers in 2025
On the other end of the spectrum, the Los Angeles Dodgers take the top spot for the priciest home opener experience. Their March 27 matchup against the Detroit Tigers will cost a fan at least $207.87, driven mainly by a staggering $188 ticket price.
The Texas Rangers, fresh off their 2023 World Series win, come in at No. 2 with an opening day cost of $181.41 for their matchup against the Boston Red Sox.
Here’s a look at the five most expensive home openers:
1. Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Detroit Tigers – $207.87
2. Texas Rangers vs. Boston Red Sox – $181.41
3. Boston Red Sox vs. St. Louis Cardinals – $166.21
4. Baltimore Orioles vs. Boston Red Sox – $136.50
5. Chicago Cubs vs. San Diego Padres – $134.45
Why the Huge Price Gap?
Several factors contribute to the price disparity, including team success, market size, and demand. The Twins, despite being reigning champions, are keeping prices low, potentially to maintain strong fan engagement. Meanwhile, the Dodgers, Rangers, and Red Sox are among the biggest markets in baseball, leading to higher ticket costs.
