FRISCO, Texas (TXAN) — The Texas Legends may be struggling on the court, but their fans are proving to be one of the brightest spots of the season.
Despite a tough loss to the Santa Cruz Warriors, dropping the Legends to 8-20, the crowd turnout and support were tremendous.
However, the team has yet to match that energy with consistent success, raising questions about how the Dallas Mavericks can better develop talent through their G League system.
Fans Deserve More as Legends Struggle
Even with their record near the bottom of the standings, the Legends continue to draw passionate fans who show up game after game. The energy in the arena proves that there is a strong basketball culture in Frisco, but the product on the court hasn’t met expectations.
How the Mavericks Can Build a Stronger G League Program
For the Legends to become a true feeder system for the Mavericks, changes need to happen:
1. More Two-Way Player Development – The Mavs should send young roster players to the Legends more frequently for extended reps.
2. Stronger Veteran Presence – Adding experienced G League veterans could provide leadership and stability.
3. Better System Integration – The Legends should run schemes similar to the Mavericks so players can transition smoothly.
4. Increased Coaching Support – Investing in high-level coaching and development staff can accelerate progress.
5. Building on Fan Support – With such a dedicated fan base, the Legends should enhance community engagement, promotions, and in-game experiences to keep fans excited.
The Legends have all the right ingredients for success, but without a better player development pipeline from the Mavericks, the fans’ energy will continue to outshine the team’s performance.
