East Texas Alumna Carried Olympic Torch Relay Across France

Nacogdoches, TEXAS (TXAN 24 News) – As the Olympic torch completes its trek to Paris, it will have traveled through the hands of so many, including the hands of Stephen F. Austin State University alumna Elena Bleicher.

Bleicher, who started her journey in Gries, France, moved to Nacogdoches in 2019 to join SFA as a Ladyjack. As a dedicated student-athlete, she led the SFA tennis team as captain and graduated last May with a degree in sports business.

Bleicher's journey extends beyond the tennis courts as she now serves as the assistant coordinator for the Paris 2024 Olympic Torch Relay. She is integral to orchestrating the relay that brings the Olympic torch to Paris, even taking part in carrying it herself.

The Olympic Torch Relay covers over 400 towns and cities in France, including five overseas regions, and involves 10,000 torchbearers. It commenced in Marseille on May 8 and will conclude on July 26 when the torch arrives at the Olympic Village. Bleicher’s time carrying the torch can be seen here.
