TYLER, TX – Social media posts allegedly made by Tobin L. Reid, the Athletic Director of Cumberland High School in Tyler, have surfaced, raising serious concerns from local parents over comments viewed as racially insensitive.
Screenshots shared with TXAN 24 News show Reid’s account making provocative remarks via the X/Twitter platform. See the screenshots below:
Allegedly stating, “No wonder the government is going to hell. God help us. Every day it has to be about minority groups,” and, “99% of all this fights at school seem to involve black students. Why?”
Another post reads, “Never hit a girl if you’re a boy. Just restrain her until she gets back under control.”
Although Cumberland High is located in Tyler, it operates independently and is not part of Tyler ISD. Several parents within the community have voiced concern, questioning whether Reid’s leadership aligns with values of equity and respect expected in public education.
TXAN 24 News has reached out to school leadership at Cumberland High for comment and verification of the posts. As of publication, no official response has been provided.
