Concerns Mount Over Whitehouse ISD Investigations

EAST TEXAS (TXAN 24) -- Alarming reports of abuse, neglect, and misconduct within Whitehouse ISD are raising urgent questions about the safety of students and the accountability of local law enforcement. Are authorities doing enough to protect the district's most vulnerable children?

Recent police reports highlight incidents of a chemical spill allegedly involving staff member Daryn Bay that led to seizures in the classroom and claims of abuse by staff member Hillary Tremont. Both cases are tied to ongoing lawsuits against the district.

A separate case involving a special needs student, identified as A.W., has drawn criticism toward the Smith County Sheriff’s Office for allegedly offering the child only one chance to report a sexual assault. Advocates argue that vulnerable children often need multiple opportunities to share their experiences.

In another alarming report, Tyler Police investigated staff member Baylee for using a "lion tamer" chair maneuver, allegedly leaving bruises on a student identified as A.C. Additionally, improper restraints on a student, W.F., reportedly prompted a doctor to alert authorities, with Hillary Tremont again implicated.

Parents and advocates are questioning whether local law enforcement—including the Smith County Sheriff’s Office, Whitehouse Police, and Tyler Police—are adequately protecting students and holding offenders accountable. Calls for transparency and systemic changes are growing as lawsuits and investigations continue to unfold.
