TYLER, Texas (TXAN 24) — Three people were injured after a stairwell collapsed at the University of Texas at Tyler on Monday afternoon.
According to UT Tyler’s Department of Marketing and Communications, the collapse occurred around 12:30 p.m. during a planned demolition. Construction workers were on site at the time, but something went wrong, leading to the incident.
Tyler Fire Marshal Joey Hooten confirmed that one individual was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while two others were treated at the scene and released.
The stairwell involved connects the Hudnall-Pirtle-Roosth Building and Stewart Hall.
