5 East Texas Teams Are State Semifinal Bound—Will Longview Make It 6?

EAST TEXAS (TXAN 24) — East Texas football is showing its strength once again, with five teams already advancing to the UIL state semifinals. Joaquin, Carthage, Kilgore, Malakoff, and Woodville have delivered dominant performances to keep their seasons alive—and Longview has a chance to join the list with a crucial showdown against DeSoto on Saturday.





Joaquin set the tone with a commanding 46-22 win over Honey Grove, relying on its signature power-running game and suffocating defense to punch its ticket to the semifinals.


Carthage, the region’s perennial powerhouse, left no doubt in a 53-14 dismantling of Van. With their sights set on another state championship, the Bulldogs continue to set the gold standard in Texas high school football.


Kilgore was in control against Chapel Hill, holding a commanding lead late in the game 30-6. The Bulldogs’ defensive dominance and timely offensive execution have them on the brink of yet another semifinal appearance.


Malakoff was poised for victory, taking down Texarkana Liberty-Eylau with a balanced offensive attack and big-play capability 35-0. The Tigers are looking stronger than ever as they gear up for the next round.


Woodville took charge in its game against Daingerfield, showcasing resilience and teamwork to keep its championship hopes alive 40-7.


Now, all eyes turn to Longview, which will face DeSoto tomorrow in a blockbuster matchup. A win would bring the East Texas contingent to an impressive six teams heading into the semifinals, further cementing the region’s dominance in Texas high school football.
