East Texas (TXAN 24 News) — As the Texas high school football playoffs gear up, East Texas teams are proving that the region is still a powerhouse in the sport. With a remarkable 35 teams advancing across multiple divisions, communities are rallying behind their schools in hopes of bringing championship titles home. Here’s a breakdown of what to expect as East Texas teams prepare for the postseason.
Small School Dominance: 1A and 2A Teams
In the 1A-I division, Union Hill represents East Texas, poised to bring intensity and determination into their playoff matchup.
2A-II division teams include Mount Enterprise and Overton, who are familiar faces in East Texas playoff scenes. Both teams have proven themselves throughout the season and are ready to compete. Meanwhile, in 2A-I, East Texas will see several contenders, including Big Sandy, Beckville, Timpson, Waskom, Shelbyville, and Elysian Fields. These teams have consistently shown a high level of skill, with Timpson and Beckville considered strong contenders, thanks to their solid records and standout players.
Competitive Edge in 3A Divisions
3A-II is loaded with East Texas talent, with Grand Saline, Arp, DeKalb, Troup, New Diana, Daingerfield, Newton, and Edgewood all entering the playoffs. The Daingerfield Tigers and Newton Eagles, with their history of postseason success, look to go deep into the playoffs, while Troup and Arp have also built strong cases to make impressive runs.
In 3A-I, powerhouse schools Jefferson, Fairfield, Palestine Westwood, Tatum, Winnsboro, and Liberty-Eylau are ready to showcase their talent. With explosive offenses and disciplined defenses, Tatum and Jefferson are seen as teams that could emerge as front-runners in their division.
