#1 LSU humbled in Las Vegas by #20 Colorado 92-78

TEXAS (TXAN) -- The nation's top ranked womens team lost Monday.


Louisiana State University lady tigers came into the season as the number one ranked team in the country to face another Top 25 opponent in Colorado their official season opener.


The contest took place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada as apart of the 2023 Hall of Fame Series. LSU was ahead by two points at the end of the first quarter but that advantage was short lived. outscored the top team in the nation in the next two quarters and cruised with a double digit lead into the final quarter.


Colorado Lady Buffs, led by 5'11 senior guard Frida Formann and junior center Aaronette Vonleh, combined for a total of 51 points on the night.


LSU saw only 3 points in 18 minutes from starting sophomore guard Flau'jae Johnson. Sa'myah Smith, another sophomore, did step up and saw a lot of action with 16 points in 26 minutes of action.


The final score: #20 Colorado 92 - #1 LSU 78


Colorado will face Le Moyne in Boulder, Colorado on Nov. 8 at CU Events Center.


LSU will play Queens in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on Nov. 9 at Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
